What is MIT App Inventor?

We will be using a program called MIT App Inventor to create Android applications.

• Normally, programming involves lines of text referred to as source code. In the past, producing a program with an interesting interface would have required hundreds or thousands of lines of source code. However, using App Inventor, the source code is molded into what we call puzzle blocks.
• App Inventor is a blocks-based programming language for building mobile apps.

1. Inventor components work (left to right then top to bottom).
2. Blocks are the code that make the components “do” things.

• An app is a set of event handlers. Each event handler has an event and a response. The response is a sequence of blocks that are executed when the event happens.

• It is completely started and used within a browser. Supported browsers: Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Internet Explorer is not supported!

• In this class, we only refer to the Chrome browser for working on the App Inventor. You need to log in using a Google account. http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu

  2. Open the Google Play store or Apple App Store on your phone or tablet, or use the QR code below.
